Maiden flight of the Phantom

How to begin this tale of comedy and tragedy… Well I guess I should start on friday when both Jimbob and Aeion bit the bullet and decided to take them out by themselves.
Obviously I wasn’t there but the story goes something like this. Jimbob in his infinite wisdom decides to trim the new aircraft on the ground and obviously managed to somehow snap the tail in 2 before he even flew it. So Aeion turns up with some sticky tape and glue and they both attempt to fly again, resulting in some more tail snappage.
Of course although I found this highly amusing it did indeed begin to make me panic. Despite all my bragging about how they were just crap at flying I was genuinely scared I was gonna ditch it the first time it went up *gulp*
So Saturday morning arrives and me and Carnage head for the common to get some flying time in whilst we wait for the others, after a quick trip to the shops to get a picnic. We setup our pit technician Pingu on a blanket ready to repair any damages that occur and then unpacked everything. Carnage was the first to go up as I was too much of a coward to go myself and with 1 swift motion we threw the plane into the air and……. it flew.
Carnage flew it round overhead a couple of times with no issues at all and then started lining up to land. This is where it got a little hairy for the first time as it went a little off course and ditched into the gravel pathway. UT OH! but hang on its up in the air again before landing yet again. Not the most graceful landing in the world but the main thing is it was intact (Although a fair distance away and a little scratched) So I guess it was my turn now, so I passed my plane to Carnage for him to launch it, and you can imagine I was quite disappointed when he just dropped it . So we tried again and it was up and flying. I didn’t try much just wanted to get used to the controls, then I bought it in to land with no problems. And so it continued until mine started banking hard to the left for some unknown reason and eventually ditched and snapped the tail
Hawk turned up and didn’t have much luck either stacking it on the second flight and snapping the tail, but Carnage just refused to crash…. Bastard! And soon enough he was going up and doing loops and rolls the cocky bastard! But then finally he tried a multiple loop and I can only assume he put too much stress on the wings as they snapped in the middle and he came plummeting down to the earth. Justice.
Awesometastic Day of Flying!

Ok for those of you reading in the forums you are probably aware that myself, Hawk and Aeion have recently purchased a new flying machine.
The Silverlit X-Twin 3D plane was purchased from Wonderland Models and is immense loads of fun. We were unable to really play the games that we had lined up due to the weight of the aircraft and the amount of wind outside.
The plane seemed to manage to give you some indication to control it but I cannot be sure as it seemed to go where the wind wanted more. There was some fun harmless collisions both with bushes, people, other planes and obviously the floor. I think the most amazing thing about these little critters is no matter how hard you decide to slam it into the floor, which incidentally happened a lot
they just don’t break. (Apart from hawk’s which was mostly tape by the end of the day
)
Unfortunatly the same cannot be said for the mustang which suffers quite badly when it impacts with the floor. The first successful launch lasted around 5 sec’s before getting hit by a gust of wind that sent it sideways snapping its wing. Now to most people they would have left it there and given up, but I decided what the hell lets stick the wing back together with sticky tape
So after 10 mins with a roll of sticky tape she was ready to go again and before we knew it she was up in the air.
At this point the mustang would not stop banking to the left no matter how much I trimmed it and the flight whilst impressive didn’t last as long as I’d like and it came tumbling down in a free fall that I had no hope of pulling out of. I could just about see it smashing into pieces in the distance, on closer inspection the whole of the front end was soup
Again most people at this point would put it down to experience and leave it at that, but before you know it Pingu was back out with the sticky tape and rebuilding the front end and 15 mins later we were ready to fly again. She went up, and away, literally and I couldn’t turn the plane back towards me it was getting further and further away (And impressively higher) before the inevitable happened and once again she fell out of the sky. Needless to say there was going to be no field repair this time as the front end was pointing upwards like a helicopter.

So the whole thing needs to be repaired again so I can have yet more fun smashing it up again
